Holton TR-161 information?

Hi,

I picked up an Holton TR-161 (medium bore 525 with F-attachment). I already own an Yamaha YSL-354. Mouthpiece I use is an 7C Bach style. Just for all-round playing (amateur).

My question is, does anyone maybe have some experience with this type? I am looking for some info, but can’t find a lot an google. Seems to be a rare type of horn?

The Holton 161 is a nicer version of the Holton 602F, which has a 0.525" bore slide with a 0.562" bore bell section and f attachment. Played with a good mouthpiece and good technique, it should produce a good sound.

Don’t have any experience with the tr-161, but I have owned two 602Fs. The 161 looks like an open wrap version of the 602F with a mechanical linkage and nickel trim. I found the 602F to be an awesome horn. It was a .525 with an 8 inch bell. It played very well, good partials, a good slide and could handle a good amount of volume without breaking up. I used my first with a Bach 6 1/2 AL and the second with a Wick 6bs.

If it’s a nicer version of a 602F it’s sounds like it’ll be a great horn. Congratulations on the pickup, I’ve always been a fan of Holton trombones.

Seems like a good find.
You might be happier with a larger mouthpiece than a 7C.
