What is this trombone?

Post by Jleeferg »

Can anyone please identify this trombone? The counterweight is pretty distinctive so hopefully someone can help me out. Thanks

Looks like a Reynolds Model 70 from the mid-to-late 1940's (1946-1949, according to Contempora Corner). That's based on the engraving, ferrules, and braces. The vertical engraving using block letters was only around for a few years.

Reading through the story, I kinda have to wonder if that trombone is still tucked away in some evidence storage space in Kingston. Being an artifact closely tied to the roots of Ska, it's a piece of music history - but it's also closely associated with death of Anita Mahfood and the sad end of Don Drummond himself.
