Switching a lot at first. 🤷‍♂️

Post by Trhtrbn »

I am currently a community band member, 62 years old. I played most brass instruments at one time or another. Played in SoCal elementary school (I started out on trumpet and switched to Baritone TC in Jr. HS). I switched to Tuba and doubled Bass Trombone in HS and the US Army band. I was in the US Army Band in late 1978 until early 1984. I played in the Salvation Army SoCal Honor Band from about 1994 to about 2004 on the BBb and EEb tuba and marched in the 2000 Rose Parade with them. Picked up the trumpet about 4 months ago but about 2 months ago I switched to the trombone, which I prefer playing. This is after a prolonged layoff of 10+years, due to the erroneous assumption that I could not play with dentures. I watched the Chet Baker movie and thought I would begin playing again. I have tried a bass bone and a large bore tenor with f attachment but I decided to go with a straight tenor trombone. So I got really lucky and found this really cool straight tenor trombone and after much experimenting I have decided to stick with this horn for at least a year, to take lessons, and to learn to improvise. This is the trombone I now have, a Yamaha YSL-3530R 0.500/0.525 bore, and a 0.485 receiver with a rose brass bell. I purchased it on eBay from Japan. I am going with the Yamaha YAC51C4 small shank mouthpiece.
