Bach X-Wrap

I inquired with a dealer in the U.S. about the availability of Bach's X-wrap valve section. To my surprise he said they found the x-wraps to play a little uncentered in the valve range and that after their tech goes over them they play a bit better. I know from personal experience that 42AFs and 50AF3s can play uncentered in the valve range (felt like playing false tones).

I just wanted to know if anyone else who's tried any of the Bachs with the x-wrap has found the same thing in the valve range.

They certainly look interesting. However, they should work well right out of the factory rather than a tech having to adjust it.

I doubt it's the wrap, more likely the valve (as is the case with the infinity valves).

Please tell all the factories this. Half my job is going through new horns and either fixing them or sending them back.
The quality coming out right now is pathetic. And I am not just talking Conn/ Selmer.

Two recently (within the last two years) acquired Shires trombones, Curran and Chicago. Chicago is absolutely fantastic, no sign of any sloppiness whatsoever, the Curran sounds great but slide alignment is definitely subpar.

About a month ago there was a brass store owner on Facebook, I won't mention who, but he blasted Conn/Selmer and said that for the moment he won't even stock their instruments.

Good grief! I've accepted that the AFs are hit or miss (in my experience, more miss) but the new rotors as well? I"m like you, I want Bach to be good but they don't make it easy. Especially when I can pick up an Edwards, Shires, M&W, etc and be totally locked in. Seems like the best bet for Bach is still to try a whole bunch or buy used parts and have an awesome tech put something together.

I'd speculate that they are quite different from each other!

The kissbone used to have that extra option where you could kick out the smaller F slide for an easier low C (maybe even B), but I think they got rid of it on some models.

Not having one on the Bach seems like a huge missed opportunity.
