Trombone comparisons. King 3B with F versus Benge 190 F.
I was just wondering whether anyone could comment on these 2 trombones when compared? I have a King 3B with fifth trigger since 1976 which is the only trombone I have ever played. Just started playing again 6 months ago and was interested in playing a larger bore trombone. What can anybody tell me? Quality of instruments, sounds between the two and any others. Just anything you can think of would be fine. Thank you.

This is a really apple-orange comparison.

The 3B-F is a large-ish small bore trombone.

The Benge 190 F is a large bore trombone with a true symphonic sound.

Quality is pretty comparable (made in the same factory, after all).

If you are accustomed to having the bell brace between thumb and forefinger of the left hand, the Benge 190 doesn't do that. You will need some kind of grip aid like a Rest Bar or the like. Or learn how to hold trombones built like that.

The Benge 190 is a great large bore trombone. Too bad it never got any love when it came out.
