77H vs. 6H slide comparison

Post by Thrawn22 »

Hi all.

How similar are the 77H and 6H slude sections? I can only assume the leadpipes are different? 77H Outer tubes look like 5H outer tubes so would that make the 77H tubes light like the 5H? Is itveven worth getting a 77H slide to pair with a pro Conn bell section?

I have one of each at home and I'll get some pics later. The 6H is a '57 and the '77H is a 1969 (and is for sale). There is definitely a difference beyond the crook and hand grip.

Ok, I'll get the pics up in a bit. The dimensions are the same with the 77H having a brass crook and different handgrips. The 77H does not have the focus/clarity that I find on the 6H. I swapped bells back and forth too. I wonder about the leadpipes.

There are some quick pics. There is not much visual difference but the play is quite different. I might try swapping outers for fun.

It's the difference in play I'm wondering about. I'm thinking of getting a 77H slide for a backup to my 6H.

Swapped the outers this morning and other than slight alignment issues all went well. The 77H outer on the 6H inner felt very close to the 6H/6H combo. The 6H outer on the 77H inner responded like the 77H as a whole. I'd put my money on the leadpipe differences. Of the two, I like the 6H slide as built. If I was in the place to keep them both, I''d find a tech and have them set up so I could easily swap the outers between both inners.

Thinking about it more - The 77H outer on the 6h inner had a bit more warmth/color and had more of a round sound. I'm thinking the brass crook is more of a contributor than leadpipe differences.

Ultimately id like to be able to swap outers that have different alloys with a set of inners.

I didn't think of the crook difference. That's something to tjink about now.

Thanks for all.of this help!
