Ladies,
Has anyone given thought to some other form of trigger slide manipulation, say for the pull to E/D on a multi-slide bass? I'm thinking something similar to what trumpet players use for 1st and 3rd slides. Obviously it would require a longer range of motion, but is it possible? Perhaps that's what the 2nd rotor is for instead of slide manipulation.(Scratches head)The wrap on the Reynolds 72x Contempora is unusual in that it has 2 circuits that wrap around both sides of the bell stays. One side tunes the F, the other for E or lower. Having played trumpets and tubas with triggers along with doing the dancing slide thing on uncompensated tuba, I keep thinking there's got to be another way(Scratches head again...)

Re: different trigger mechanism for f trigger
The 2 valve bass was developed to improve the low range of the bass trombone since a single F-attachment will only get you to low C leaving no slide room to get to low B.
At one time there was an E-attachment that would let you get low B but the first notes on the slide are E and B, less convenient than an F-attachment. In fact, most older F-attachments allow enough travel in the attachment tuning slide to move it to E (not possible on newer open wrap models).
There was a system made up so that the second trigger actually moved the F-attachment slide. This is necessary for the B-F gliss in Bartok (Miraculous Mandarin and Concerto for Orchestra). I've seen a YouTube video demonstrating this horn, but never seen one in the flesh.

Compensating f valve? Linear actuator (or maybe a really clever pulley mechanism) pulls the f slide out depending on what position the main slide is in.

Thein's "Bartok" bass trombone. This has an open wrap with a long tuning slide and a finger-actuated pantograph mechanism to extend the tuning slide.
