Standards arranged for trombone and piano

Post by norbie2018 »

Looking to put together a recital program for assisted living residents and was hoping to find jazz standards arranged for trombone and piano. If need be, I could perform with a cd accompaniment. Any specific suggestions?

Thanks.

I've got an arrangement of "Begin The Beguine" I can mail to you if I can only find it! Let me know if interested and I'll look for it.
I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are still missing! :D

Robert Elkjer is an amazing arranger and has some standards with piano accompaniment available. https://robertelkjer.net/TrbnAndPianoPage2.html

Hire a jazz piano player

Maybe combine the good advice of both CharlieB and Doug?
Get a "Jazz Playalong" with CD to practice with, and hire a pianist who can read changes.

If the facility won't spring for the pianist you still have a backup.

DO read the copyright info on the first page of any of these carefully. Performance and recording are cited specifically.

Well, those are all good ideas . . . There's always MMO (Music Minus One), #3910, Jazz Standards for Trombone. (Keith O Quinn). Comes with a CD, fully orchestrated accompaniment with strings. Easy to read . .

My problem is that I would be able to read the lead line and play it stylistically, but I am out of my league when it comes to improvising. Some of the suggestions address my need of a written out solo. Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Written out solos sound like... written out solos.

Play the tune and let the jazz piano player that you've hired take the solo.
