Re: Interchangeable leadpipes
Not with a leadpipe, but had an obvious shank issue with a bass piece from a highly regarded manufacturer. It didn’t fit any horn correctly. Contacted them, showed them comparison pictures, and they jumped on it. They immediately sent me a replacement without me even asking and paid for shipping to return the defective one to them. If your pipe doesn’t fit, then it doesn’t fit and it needs to go back.
Like you know, sometimes in production, things don’t come out the way they should and get missed. There’s also a possibility that the pipe isn’t marked correctly (ie. A medium bore .525 pipe somehow gets stamped as a small bore .508 pipe). The reasons could continue. I would contact the manufacturer and/or seller. I would expect they would want to make it right. Hope you find a resolution soon.

Re: Interchangeable leadpipes
Leadpipes can be really, really snug. Like, uncomfortably snug but are probably fine. If you buy a leadpipe it’s usually best to send the slide off and have them fit the pipe to your slide so it fits exactly right. The difference of .001 can make a surprisingly big difference. If it’s too small, it’ll go in easy but not feel right. If it’s too big, you’ll have to force it in!
When I order pipes, I usually take it to the local place and they tweak it for me to make sure it matches my pipe exactly. But I’m not super handy. Apparently it isn’t very hard to handle that to it yourself. That way, I can avoid sending the slide off. I come in so regularly that half the time they do it for free at this point lol
Speaking of… I need to have someone look at a Conn that pipe I ordered recently that isn’t fitting so well in my 547. I suspect this slide is a touch narrower than .547 or this pipe is .548 or .5475 or something. It goes in but I feel like I’m destroying my slide when I insert it :yikes:

Yup.
Clearances are small, measurement systems in use suck (c’mon, 2 jaw calipers don’t cut it here).
Usually roundness or straightness more than pure diameter problems. “Effective diameter.”
Cheers,
