Trombonist looking for a band
I live in western KY and I am looking to join a band. I have over 17 years experience performing in a big band, jazz band, and community bands. I would also be open to any small group as well.

"Western Kentucky" covers a lot of ground.
Any chance you're near this band?

Re: Trombonist looking for a band
I used to get corporate transfers a lot. The local music store usually had some recommendations for me on bands. Another source of tips would be local high school and college band directors.
I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are still missing!

Re: Trombonist looking for a band
Hi and thank you for the replies.
I would love getting involved with the bands there at Western KY University, but it is a 2 hour drive from my location.
I will put feelers out to local band directors about playing opportunities.
Thank you,

Re: Trombonist looking for a band
Check local colleges, including community colleges and branches of major colleges. I've played in three community college bands that rehearsed at night. A local conservatory of music where I live has an outreach program to local amateurs and sponsors an orchestra for them.

Re: Trombonist looking for a band
I am playing in the area community bands, one in my hometown and another at a university.
These gigs are only twice a year and I want to perform more often.
I appreciate your feedback, and I’ll continue reaching out to area band directors as well.
Thanks!

I'm still looking for an opportunity to play. If anyone knows of a group I can jam with, please contact me.
Thanks,

Re: Trombonist looking for a band
Mike - sometimes you have to make your own opportunities to play. I wanted to play in a brass quintet 20 years ago, so I started one. 4 years ago I wanted to play in a larger brass ensemble. So I started one. If you have some other quality players in your existing groups, they might also be looking for additional places to play.

Paducah is a relatively small city; how does travel to Nashville, Bowling Green, St Louis, or Louisville work for you? Bowling Green is small also, but has historically had strong music programs.

If you can make to KC, I'll play duets with you!

Hey guys!
I agree, living in a small town makes it very difficult to find opportunities to perform. I wished I was closer to KC or Bowling Green.
Thanks, for all the suggestions!
