Shhhmute on Alto
Has anyone tried the Flugel one on alto trombone? I can sort of fit the tenor one in but it definitely doesn’t feel right and the intonation isn’t as good as using it on tenor.

Can't speak to the Shhmute, but I have a Yamama (new) flugel mute and can confirm it works fine in the altos I've tried it on (Selman, Conn 36, and Wessex) .

Didn’t fit mine. I have a Thein, so it might be because of the German taper thing.
Rejano makes a really nice alto practice mute.

Thanks guys.
Maybe I’ll just try and see if Dillons has one I can test. Also I think I was among the first batch of people to get the Rejano mute set and as I wrote here, I did not care for them. Having practiced with a mute pretty much exclusively for a year and a half, I really wouldn’t want anything but a Shhhmute- and I’ve tried just about all of the options out there.

I had a Humes & Berg Mannie Klein mute (flugel) and it worked with my Conn 36H, but I wouldn't recommend that mute -- it's a lousy practice mute.

Re: Shhhmute on Alto
I have the bass, tenor and flugel shhhhmutes. Overall happy with them. Relatively heavy, but response and resistance as well as intonation are relatively good. The flugel shhhmute fits okay in my relatively Weril alto, but I think it does not fit properly in my smaller German alto. On alto intonation definitely suffers, but the alto itself in this case seems to support these tuning tendencies...

Re: Shhhmute on Alto
My intonation on alto already suffers haha which is why I’m trying to spend more time with it on my face. I think if it fits the Weril it should fit my horn too, so I’ll probably give it a shot.
Thanks gentlemen-

I use the Denis Wick Flugelhorn/Alto Trombone practice mute on my alto trombones. It works equally well on all of them. The "cork" is actually a thicker, flexible rubber ring. I think the rubber ring was used intentionally to accommodate a wider variety of bell throats.

I don't have one yet, but I'm hearing great things about the new Rejano practice mutes. The Principal Trombone of the LA Phil. has designed a set of practice mutes that are produced on a 3D printer. Very lightweight, quite soft, and according to my colleagues that have them, very in tune and free-blowing. A few of the go-to stores in the US are stocking them.
