Practice mute

I've used the Dennis Wick, Best Brass, Silent Brass with and without electronics and both sizes, Shhhhh Mutes, the Dillon's Best Brass copy, and the Rejano Mute.

the Rejano practice mutes work the best by far in my experience.

Silent brass is definitely the best for me but only the new ones... which means not bass trombone unfortunately.

I've had Best Brass, Shhh mute, Denis Wick, Jo-Ral, Yamaha Silent Brass (the new one)... The winner is the Rejano Mute

On my bass I have the best brass, soft tone, rejano, jo-ral, shhmute, and a trumcor. I prefer the Shhmute, but the Rejano is a very close second. I feel like the Shhmute is easier to hear if you are using it right, but the Rejano might feel a little less stuffy, but I find it harder to hear if I am blowing funny into it, the bass one is also super awkward to get out of the bell because of how wide the base is. The best brass is best for travel because it fits in the bell. The soft tone I use as a bucket mute more. The trumcor is nice but sticks out the most, but is light weight. the jo-ral sticks out, doesn’t like to stay in the bell and play supper stuffy. At least for me.

For tenor I only use the Shhmute for at home/school, or the best brass when traveling. Haven’t splurged for a Rejano yet.

Years ago I bought a practice mute made by the Wallace Collection. I bought it in GB but there are places in States to buy them. It’s a terrific practice mute. Here’s a link:

I've tried the (OLD) Yamaha Silent Brass Practice mute and that thing was just too bulky and heavy for me. Also, I had the Best Brass practice mute (I think thats what its called lol) It was super quiet but I didn't like the back pressure and it also messed with the pitch when in use. Good thing is that it fits right in the bell which means you could bring it with you wherever.

The Shh Mute is my jam! I use it when I warm up on stage or when I'm in my apartment and want to bang out a couple notes in the night time. The only thing is that it might not fit in a hard case. You might have luck with a Gig Bag that has extra room.

The shh mute is my favorite of the three. Hope this helps!

Me too, except for the Dillon’s copy. Rejano works best for me, too.

I just got my Rejano mute for tenor trombone.
Damn, that thing is really stable in pitch ... and I don't need to tune my trombones when playing along with practice exercises.
On the Rejano website they write 4oz (113g) for the tenor mute ... mine has 5,61oz (159g) ... it feels really heavy on the trombone. That is 40% more weight as advertised.
What do your Rejano tenor mutes weight?

My Okura has just 80g and the Best Brass bass 77g.
I already send a request to David Rejano for explanation. Let's see, if he answers.
