Recording yourself

Post by Bach5G »

I’ve been putting off recording myself for years. But, our orchestra is putting together a project and I have to record a short segment of music.

This is turning out to be every bit as demoralizing as expected. But, I assume the worst is over.

How are they unifying it?

A click track? A guide track?

Click track.

...

This turned to be quite easy once I sorted things out.

I opened the click track on my laptop and used my Bluetooth earbuds. I used GarageBand on my IPhone to record. I sent the recording to the MD who seemed happy with it.

Since then, I’ve recorded myself playing a few other things. Tonguing, scales, that sort of thing. The recordings were mostly consistent with what I was hearing. I need to clean up articulations and my intervals are a little narrow. But, all in all, not as discouraging as it seemed at first.

This process may not produce particularly high quality recordings, but it seems more than adequate to analyze and, hopefully, improve one’s own playing.
