Yamaha YSL-882GO - Review

Not quite on topic for what's really an old thread, so starting this new thread here:

I tried a YSL-882GO with gold brass bell on Saturday and in the short time I had with it noticed very little difference between its sound and the sound of my Conn 88H from 1993. Maybe an ever-so-slightly superior responsiveness and clarity with my triple-tonguing exercises, but that was about it. Overall, I thought the Yamaha an excellent bone and worthy of consideration against a Conn. I can see why Ian Bousfield, who is said to have once commented that the Conn 88H is "the best trombone ever made," likes today's Yamahas so much.

I tried the 881G Straight horn and loved it. I normally don`t care for Yamahas but this horn was a real keeper.
Nice dark sound , easy to fill but not real easy to over-blow, great slide and even top to bottom

Although Mr Bousfield has had a long and intermittent relationship with Yamaha, and until recently used a 882G model, he became dissatisfied with that instrument and moved over to work with and play Getzen........

What does he like so much about the Getzen?

I guess that it was built as his signature model - it is the 4147IB, so it has been designed around his preferences in an instrument....
