1 man quartet- John Romero playing Beethoven Pathetique
John Romero, principal trombone of the Met, playing some really great transcriptions of Beethoven. No color out of modern horns, huh?

I saw his recital at ITF last summer. He was just back from the Tchaikovsky brass competition. It was flawless. He played for an hour from memory. It was worth the drive to Indiana.

I saw him play this arrangement at ITF (maybe 2018 in Iowa?) with an all-Texas quartet. I remember that Brent Phillips was in it but don't remember the rest of the players. Absolute barn burner.

I saw that performance at Iowa ITF too. I recall that before they started, one of them and I think it was John Romero sat down at the piano and played excerpts of it from memory explaining how he went about arranging it for four bones. A very talented musician. A truly impressive performance.

He sounds better playing the bass part on tenor than most bass players do playing bass parts on bass.
