La Fosse
Increased motivation following the recent Virtual International Trombone convention means I’ve refocused on technique and basics. Some happy, distant, memories of using La Fosse - Methode Complete, both books.
So, I’d like to revisit. Any recommendations about particularly useful exercises in there? I’m looking at the legato section just now. Recall the section on lip trills not being very comprehensive, but it was a long time ago. Which sections of La Fosse would you recommend to someone going for a general all around technique improvement, brush up and refresh?

The 10 "Daily Exercises" pp158 - 161. That'll keep you busy!

Yes, what he said. Play them exactly as written for maximum benefit.

Re: La Fosse
I have hard copies of the first two volumes which reference the pages you guys mention. Looking on University of Rochester site I see four volumes, all pages numbered consecutively. Can see 12 exercises starting page 103 but cannot see exercises on the pages you referenced. Seems to be a 1921 edition. Any idea what I am missing?

Re: La Fosse
I have an edition that was on IMSLP (sadly taken down). The entire 4th part is excerpts.
The etudes you saw in the Rochester site are not labeled "Daily" but instead are "Technical".
There are 10 "Exercises Journales" (Daily Exercises) starting on p.99. All quite technical.
I'm sorry IMSLP took down the LaFosse copy. Is it still in print by LeDuc?

Thanks Bruce. I’ll look at page 99. Not sure or if it’s in print.

Re: La Fosse
Do you have the Lafosse Vade Mecum book? There's a bunch of scale exercises in the beginning.

Re: La Fosse
Not got that one. Have also failed to locate the daily/technical exercises in the two volumes I have. Pity, as I would have liked to try them.
Currently working in the legato exercises. They’ve helped highlight some sloppiness I’ve allowed to creep in.

Re: La Fosse
It was a Paris conservatory book. It should be fairly easy to get in the UK.

Re: La Fosse
Looked at the version at Rochester and found the 10 exercises on page 99 you mention Bruce. They will certainly help highlight my inadequacies! Am having this version printed for personal use, it should be easier to review the things that have moved around when I have it in hard copy and track down what is in volumes 3+4.BGuttman wrote: ↑Sun May 24, 2020 8:24 am I have an edition that was on IMSLP (sadly taken down).
